REGGIE BYERS
Reggie Byers, the CEO of Blue Bat Studios, is a publisher, children’s book author, and illustrator based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. A 40-year veteran of the comic book industry, Reggie has illustrated a vast array of comic books and children’s titles.
In 2015, he received the ECBACC Pioneer/Lifetime Achievement Award in recognition of his groundbreaking contributions to the field. Widely regarded as a trailblazer, Reggie became the first African American self-publisher of black-and-white comics with his manga-inspired series SHURIKEN in 1985.
Motivated by his faith, Reggie went on to create the acclaimed Christian comic book series KIDZ OF THE KING in 1994, which he and his wife initially self-published before it was later acquired and distributed nationwide by Urban Ministries Inc. (UMI).
Today, Reggie continues to publish, write and illustrate engaging and uplifting stories through children’s books and comics that entertain, educate, and inspire readers of all ages.
